I get troubling looks from pans & tilts with the EX1. Static the picture is stunning and deadsharp, but as I start a pan (quick or slow) it gets blury. Any specific profile to get this right?
Also on the output (composite) I get worse pictures than downscaled work from a V1 or even a A1E...
Maybe someone can post a few moving shots to proov' I'm wrong.

Are you getting horizontal line artifacts running up the image. I'm thinking of buying an EX1 but I'm worried it may exhibit a similar problem I had with my HV20 due to the CMOS technology. They're hard to see, but I keep thinking I see less noticeable amounts of this in EX1 footage. Hopefully, it's just my display and the vimeo HD flash re-compression. This is what I'm talking about in the HV20. The author of the footage confirmed its in her original footage.

digital ripples in the footage of the woman in orange at 2.12 - 2.22 and at 3.12 with the kids sliding down the handrail. The creator confirmed it's in the source material when I messaged her.

I also see lots of footage with even more of this problem, but figured two specific instances were easier to talk about.

Your issue isn't really visible. I think it sounds more like a problem with interlacing. I'm referring to bluriness during pans and tilts.

You aren't talking about rolling shutter are you? you say digital ripples, which makes me think the CMOS rolling shutter problem. I'm about to pull the trigger on buying the EX1 in about a week, but am wondering if the rolling shutter has been an issue. I shoot sports from time to time and want to make sure that it isn't a problem.

I did some testing and left the shutter in default. You can watch it here: vimeo.com/829511
If I were you, I would hire an EX1 and try it first for your purpose before buying. If you're planning to use the composite or Y/C output for some occasions, you'll find that the EX1 scales terribly also. Almost not useable. I'm not a pro and maybe I'm doing something awfully wrong. Then I hope someone will correct me and tell me the right setting sto get rid of this problem.
But still, the machine does give awsome (static and slow swiveling) pictures. Nothing done before on a cam this size and price. You'll have to embrace the HD fully though!
If you want me to do more test and settings, let me know. I'll make the time.

Have you tried filming in 720p50?

As well as a lovely format in its own right (for PC/web display), you can push your finished edit through After Effects to re-interlace it if you need the 'DV' look. There may be an FCP solution too.

I have no issue with my camera on what your saying.
I do have a issue with my EX1 being way to stroby for 24p imaging. The Panasonic HVX might have been a better bet for 24p.
I think I will have to refer to 2pop since there seems to be very few who know what to do on this camera.

If you don't mind being _friendly_, you're most welcome to join the discussions on EX1 over at DVinfo.net. There's several ongoing discussions about strobing and rolling shutter distortion.

After all, this is a gallery forum, not a Tech Support forum.
