Okay, so I've been fighting for a few days to try and get Flash to load Vimeo thumbnails from an xml feed and couldn't get it to work because Vimeo hosts their thumbnails on Amazon's s3 service(which doesn't have a crossdomain policy file that will let us load thumbnails in due to Flash's security restrictions as pointed out here: http://staging.vimeo.com/forums/topic:10829). However, I found a dirty little hack to get around it. For some reason, the security problem only kicks in if you use an actual loader object. However, Flash renders tags within dynamic text boxes crossdomain (without security issues) so you can take your string that you pull out of the xml feed and insert it into a dynamic text box and Flash will render it without throwing the security issues. I know its not pretty, but thought I'd put it up here for anyone else that might be struggling with this and isn't knowledgeable with PHP or Javascript. Also, Vimeo, I hope you don't see this as a problem and try to cut it off... I promise the site that I'm doing it on is a very low visitor website :x
