Has anyone had any luck in embedding vimeo hosted videos in a wordpress hosted blog, and can you explain to me how it was done?

I tried pasting the embed code with no luck and I saw in a forum posting, mention of an available plugin that works but was unable to find the site to get this plugin and it looks like wordpress won't allow the addition of plugins anyways, for security reasons.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Doug

If you have your bolg hosted by worpress then I don't believe the plugin Thommy posted will work.

Email Wordpress and let them know that you want them to support Vimeo.

I have, multiple times...and I will continue to do so until they provide a tag.

Is there any news about wordpress.com integration? Because I just started my blog there and was a bit dissapointed that I couldn't embedd my videos. I will email them myself, too.

You can paste the Vimeo embed code in Wordpress' code view but DON'T switch back to the WYSIWYG editor, otherwise some of the code will get stripped out. HTH,

nofi is right...I have a Wordpress hosted site and I have a few Vimeo Video's embedded in it. You have to use the taxt editor though...

    A good option is vodpod.com/
They do a Firefox plug-in which lets you post videos from vimeo directly to your blog. It works really nicely.

Wordpress.com blogs now support the following embed codes (clip numbers are for demonstration):

    [vimeo vimeo.com/173714]
    or
    [vimeo 173714]

  •
  • this isn't working. where do i put that code? i'm confused and frustrated. it goes in the post? with the brackets? in "visual" or "code" or the videos thing. i tried everything i think and nothing is working
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Do not use the "visual" editor mode, use the text editor mode and then copy/paste the embed vimeo code in it. It works fine on my wordpress blog.
  • MXZEHN 1 year ago
actually for me this doesn't make any difference
it will not work either way...

I get the wrong video on my webpage. Very peculiar since the video shown on the page has a completely different ID than what I've typed in.
  • Daniel Prell plus 1 year ago

    [vimeo vimeo.com/173714]

Hi everyone, is there an easy way of grabbing a thumbnail from a vimeo embed. I have many vimeo embeds in posts on a wordpress site and want to show their thumbnail on my homepage as a click-through to the post.. any way to do this without having to get deep into the advanced API stuff please?
  •
  • Andrew Morrison 1 year ago
Wondering if/how you can resize these embeds?

The [vimeo] one worked for me, as well! Thanks, Verdugo!

I just had to make sure when I was entering the code that I was in HTML mode (the tab is beside the "Add Media" options and the "Visual" tab when you write an entry.) Then I wrote [vimeo vimeo.com/145325] but replaced the numbers with the ID number of my own video (found in the URL bar when you are viewing your video). I hit "Save" or "Publish" while still in HTML mode and it worked!

    Cheers!

I've got wordpress.org and can't get vimeo to show up. Do I need a particular plug-in? I've got "Easy Tube" right now.

Try Vipers Video Quicktags. They have a Vimeo preset. Also (not saying you do this), but sometimes users forget the simple, and don't paste the embed code in the HTML side of the post, just a reminder :)

  • Thanks Verdugo!!!! ... It works perfectly!!!!

I can get the video embedded fine, but wordpress doesn't allow the screen to go into full screen mode - am I missing something?
  •
  • Michael Herzog plus 1 year ago
Maybe it has something to do with the Basic account being limited in embedding options.
  •
  • Sean Seah plus 1 year ago
mine is a basic account. Today I failed to get the video to appear in wordpress.com. I used the code [vimeo 1234567] for example. It works for the old videos but not this one. Its quite frustrating as us non US citizens cant upgrade to vimeo plus yet..

I'm inserting Videos direct into my index page as it's part of the design but the site keeps crashing with the video on there.

How do we actually fix this?

This is how to do it easy. Spent about an hour but this will work:

    Using Firefox:

    click the code botton
or enter in the edit box.

then [vimeo id] where the id is the NUMBER of the vimeo video link.

    then click code again.

    You will get something like:

    [vimeo 2073923]

    Good luck
  • David Fogel 11 months ago
Yes, but it comes up as text in the preview :(

I am creating a new theme for WordPress for Education. I have successfully managed to get it so that the user just needs to place the video ID from vimeo as a custom field at it will display a video. However I want to provide a download link to the video too, them my students can download my videos to use on their iPods and other media players.

Is there a way that I can automatically get the download URL of a video if I know the videos ID?

    Thanks
