    i just posted a AVI video of my son playing the playstation3 and at the bottom to Download it says Download Unknown version... Video plays just fine, i hope i don;t have to delete it because i lost the video from my Computer (in other words, i deleted the video by accident).. :-(

    It says unknown version because it was uploaded without an extension. If you download it and rename the file with a .avi extension it'll play fine.

    on any video clip page (in the right column) as long as the owner of the video allowed downloading.

    thanks. for replying. iwas trying to download some of my own videos. i have marked then as private with a password and checked the allow download box, but i only see the share and embed button. would i have to change the settings to public. thanks

    ok i see it now. it is on the rt side of the page as you said rather than the player where i was looking. but anyway if you can help me with my file not playing in windows movie maker. it say the file is corrupted. thanks

    thanks... what do i need to do next time in terms of uploading? I've uploaded this video the same i've uploaded all my others, and this one is the only one that has the unknown issue?

    you can probably just rename the file you upload with a proper file extension. if you do "get info" on your files, it will tell you what the format of the file is. then you can add those extensions by suffixing .mpg, .avi, .mov, etc. if you are curious about the file formats vimeo supports, there's a link on the upload page.
