I'm going snowboarding in a few days and I want to take my Sony HDR-SR1 onto the slopes, but I'm a bit worried about it getting wet. I had hoped to get myself a underwater housing kit for my camera but it's not compatible with what Sony sell.

Has anyone managed to make their own housing? I was thinking of making something out of a water bottle but it's not quite as easy as I thought.

The bottle would prob work or I've used a plastic bag before in a storm and all turned out well. hopefully you aren't a crappy snowboarder so you won't fall down and break it... :)

Hehe, thanks for the vote of confidence ;)

I think one of those resealable bags would work quite well. I really want to get some cool shots of snow spraying towards the camera so it would be quite likely to get wet.

I thought also maybe of buying a filter to give the lens an extra bit of protection.

I got a replacement plan with mine, that included an accidental damage waiver. I wonder if I fall while skiing, will it be considered an accident?? Anyhow, I was careful and brought a homemade steadycam and had some decent luck. The beginning if the video is shaky, but you can get a look at the steadycam reflection in my sunglass.

Re: Filter. You might want to look into (actually "out of" ..lol) one of those neutral density filters. (I think that's the type.) For snow and bright sky scenes. Video comes out much clearer without the glare or the washed out look. It would also protect the lens and clean easier, especially if you decided to go commando!

    have a look here:

    dogcamsport.co.uk

If the camera's compatible (ie has an av in) you can get a helmet cam that will attach to helmet/board/skis if you use the suction mounts, or you can carry it or attach to goggles etc. The camera itself can go in your bag. The quality's pretty good (720x576 res too) and so's the anti shake...
