Ok..so..off the bat i know i order to do anything you need experience and money to do things... Im a graphic artist at heart.. but ive always loved movies..and knew my thought process during movies was different..most watch an amazing scene and take in the acting..i sit and wonder how shots were composed..how the lighting mustve been set up.. and how the saturation is slightly decrease or contrasted messed with..im weird..and blabbling.. ive been up for more then 24 hours pondering with a friend the possiblity of making a short film... enough of this... what i need
    something with amazing video quality
    possibly hd?...
i want a film look... vivid... i dont know..

    i have $700..thats my budget...
the only camera that has caught my attention has been the HV20... it seems amazing.. almost to good to be as inexpensive as it is...
What do you guys think?... any other suggestions?
i just dont want to go into this and make something that looks super b-movie
i know i might sound lame..or out of my league..but i will do this.. regardless.. i just love how encouraging most of you are and how much you all know about film...

sorry if none of this makes sense...

The HV20 is your best bet, yes. Go for it.

I love my HV20. But if $700 is the budget for your whole move...

Well, don't forget sound. Good microphones are expensive. You might need to go with a cheaper / used camera and get some used microphones / recording gear.

Read "The DV Rebel's Guide" by Stu Maschwitz. It's about action movies, but it's lessons apply to any zero budget movie.

Robert Rodriguez's "rebel without a crew" is really good, too, and he talks about how he got good sound with very little $ in gear.

You're going to want the HV20 if you can afford it, but you do NOT want to wimp out on the sound.

Get a shock mount and an ATR-55 shotgun microphone for around $70 total to get better sound.

Alternatively, I'd even suggest spending about $500 on sound and sticking to SD with the ZR800 series (at $150) Sound is MUCH more important than picture quality.
