For example, sites such as keepvid.com generate video download URLs for MySpace.

I know how to accomplish the above for YouTube (there's an swf "t" argument in the video's page, so just use php's file_get_contents on the video's page and do some regular expression preg_matching), but for Vimeo videos, I'm baffled.

    Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hint: it's intentionally hard.

I think what Andrew is saying is that you shouldn't use the converted flv outside of vimeo's player without asking them first.

The good news is that if all you want is to download the video file to have it locally on your machine, there is already an easy way to do that, just click on the download link at the bottom right corner of the sidebar on that video detail page (under "Downloads") to have the original uploaded file.

You can turn off the download source function.

totally irrelevant but: do you know how to get the flv of a myspace video with its id? The problem seems non-trivial as the data needed is not directly in the video page's html source code.

I haven't looked into it, but I'd imagine they've also made it hard to do.

    orbitdownloader.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

orbit downloader and grab work to download the flv..

haven't tried playing it back anywhere..

Is it required to play back vimeo content inside the moogaloop player? I have a flash 8 SWF that contains an FLV component player that I would like to display vimeo content. Is this possible and/or allowed?
  • Andrew Pile staff 8 months ago
Yes, you have to use the moogaloop player.

    hi.
i am trying to do that to.
    But what is moogaloop player?
    Where can i find it?
  • Ted Roden plus 8 months ago
    Moogaloop is the embed player.

Go to any video and click the "embed" button. That will give you the code to embed the video. That is moogaloop.

All debates about how silly it is to entrench media content inside of players to support hard-to-maintain-control-of revenue models aside...

You guys should really work out a chromeless player that maintains your watermarking, link back to vimeo and potential future embedded ad layering. Your player is very nice but ultimately if your competitors (aka YouTube) offer this and begin to offer better quality content you'll be at a disadvantage.

    Thanks Ted.
I have already tryed that, and it works :)
Now i have another problem that i am trying to resolve.
I have a component inside flash that is a media player, wich plays .flv's and another formats.I want it to have imagine 200px width 200px height, but when it loads the .flv from "moogaloop", and when i see my flash file(.swf) inside the internet browser, it looses the width and height and goes fullscreen.
I know it is possible to maintain the width and height, because i have already saw an example of that by a user of this forum.
Can someone point me some directions.

"All debates about how silly it is to entrench media content inside of players to support hard-to-maintain-control-of revenue models aside"

    I think the opposite

    - Neil i don't think you are seing this in the right point of view.In disadvantage will vimeo be, if they don't support this kind of technlogy.
I have read a lot abou the flash advantages and disadvantages, and all the myths related to the flash dont's, but the true is that, it's use is growing and growing.
The vimeo watermarks appears always inside the flash file, so if an user that sees that, he can link back to vimeo if he want.
So that its not a problem

If you use something like Firebug in firefox (a development plugin) and you go to the net part, then all, you will see all downloaded media for the video. then paste the link in, or check your firefox cache for the complete file if you've already streamed it.
