I am uploading videos at 640x480, as recommended in all the Vimeo FAQs and tutorials that I can find. However, once uploaded, the actual playback resolution appears to be something like 505x380, a lower resolution (smaller image) than I expected.

Is there a way to embed a Vimeo video that will actually play back at full 640x480 resolution? If not, then why is the official recommendation that we upload at 640x480, when it seems the video will be scaled down anyway?

Or, is there something much simpler going on here that I'm missing? Thanks!

No, you can't. Vimeo will resize down to another resolution just like youtube and everyone else does.

Thanks, Eugenia. So if I want to show something at "full resolution," I should just upload my original video file at 505x380, and then it will not be scaled down, correct?

    yeah, I think it's 504 btw.

Thanks. If anyone from Vimeo is reading this, it would be great to have some official documentation on playback resolutions.
