Groups beta not being very nice to me... in the Vimeo General Discussion Forum

I got a nice surprise this morning. I was invited to join 2 new vimeo groups. This is the first I've heard of a group feature and I thought COOL! Yay, fun for me!

[*Edit: It wasn't the first I'd heard about it. I'd just forgotten all about it.]

But when I clicked the links in my email, poop. I'm not allowed to join because groups are still in beta. I know I haven't been super active on vimeo recently, so I'm not mad that I haven't been included in any beta... but why allow people to tease me with invites? That's just cruel!

I'd be happy to beta test it if you guys don't mind. I'm all curious now, and it's kinda mean to go: Here, join this group. No you can't, sorry. Oh wait, come on in. Nope, not yet.

Exactly... the only reason I know about it is because someone invited me to join a group. No beta for me though. :(

Yeah that's kinda frustrating because I've invited a whole bunch of people too and had no clue it was in beta testing. So I don't know whether to re-invite those people once Groups goes live or what. I've already created 2 groups, one for discussing audio and one for a current project. I was hoping to use Groups for the project and invite 2 NEW users to vimeo but it sounds like I can't use this new project group to make this work, yet.

I can still invite them to join vimeo but I was hoping to use the slickness of groups to start organizing and sharing ideas with the new members.

When will it go live? In the next few days?

ian, beta test is limited to a very small number of people. please do not invite others to your groups unless you know they're also on the beta test list. thanks.

But I didn't know I was Beta testing. I never got a message about it nor did I see any notice on my Vimeo homepage. I just noticed the Group link in my Videos tab and clicked it thinking, "Oh, they turned it on, rad."

It wasn't till I started inviting people and only some people responded to the invite (some joining the group others going, "hey it says it's broke") that I realized that maybe it was in Beta.

Honestly, I had no idea it was in beta.
