Hi, new to this site and can't find an answer to this simple question.

I have just encoded a video which is 2 mins long. It is 640 x 480 pixels encoded in Easy Media Creator 9 using the LEAD H264 Encoder (4.0) with AAC Audio.

The encoded file is 150Mb, Is this about right for that lenght and video size ??

I dont want to waste my time uploading such a big file if it turns out that 150Mb is far too big for that duration/size.

Can anyone out there please advise on how big their video files are that they upload.

Also does anyone else use Easy Media Creator 9/10 for encoding their videos for Vimeo, if so what settings do they use?

    Thanks

Hi, Thanks for responding. I followed that guide to settings, My question was how big a file should I be looking at in this format as that subject is not mentioned and 150Mb for 2min clip seems wrong to me.

Currently on my youtube channel, the videos I encode for that (320x240 iPod format) end up around 32Mb for a 6 min video and they are absolutely crystal clear before Youtube re-encodes them so I was expecting my Vimeo videos at twice the resolution to be about 2-4 times the filesize.

    Can anyone help?

For a 2 minute VGA video the size should not be over 25 MBs. Export with the MP4 container with h.264 and AAC for codecs. 1500 kbps for video bitrate and 64 kbps stereo for audio.

My experience is between 30-40 mb at best quality with high quality stereo sound for about 2 minutes and a 640x480 frame. I don't use the same application as you though, that's with Quicktime Pro.

You'll find the filesize ranges so much with variables such as data rate, number of frames per second etc, but also with the complexity of your video. In other words if your video is 2 minutes of white wall you're going to have a much smaller video than if you have lots of quickly changing busy images.
150mb for 2 minutes of 640x480 video with H264 codec sounds a bit much though, see if the data\bitrate is much higher than 1800 kbits/sec

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes looks like 150Mb is not correct. I have just tried using the FFDSHOW H.264 codec instead and that gave me a file that was 75% smaller so I will try with that.
    Thanks again

I have now settled on the wmv format as thankfully described by Eugenia in her blog for Sony Vegas 8 which I am now using instead of Easy Media Creator.

I have posted a few videos, some in HD....

I love being able to make HiDef videos.
