This is probably a bug in the forum software where I'm seeing the problem
but I need some help figuring out why it's not working, so I can provide
some guidance to the forum support staff.

    This URL shows the problem.
    rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=904062
Viewed in Firefox 2 or IE, it shows an embedded Vimeo video
Viewed in Firefox 3, it shows only the forum generated title bar with clickable url.

View source and search for "embedded" to see the object tag.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • this happens to me as well. Seems to have started after the switch to Firefox 3. Just little bars are visible instead of full videos. The full pictures load sometimes, but only after unusually long wait times. The browser seems to be having trouble displaying the thumbnails for the videos, it's searching "storage14.vimeo.com" if that means anything to anyone.

Do you have an example for us to look at?

The little title bar with clickable link, is just pure HTML. Just an A HREF tag, so it'll always work. The actual Flash object below it is in the source, but shows nothing. I do see other websites with working embedded Vimeo vids in FF3, so I know it's possible. Example: virtualsitevisit.org/mt_includes/2008/06/howto-embed-your-vimeo-video-o.php
  •
  • yes I agree. Odd, because sometimes it works on my site. Sometimes none work, sometimes one works, rarely they all work.

It looks like your embed code is being altered. If you compare between our embed code and the code you have posted in the forum, you'll noticed that there are some differences which are probably causing the video to not work.

Your blogging/forum software is altering the code. You'll have to talk to the software owners about fixing this problem.
  •
  • Fixed it now, replacing the code seems to work. I use a web based site editor (officelive.com) and it seemed to do funny things with the sizes of the videos, bringing them down to 16px tall. Resized everything today. They must still be working the bugs out of Firefox 3.

thanks guys, I appreciate your work

My issue remains. Works in FF2 but not FF3.
Updated the post on rcgroups forum (link above) with screenshot of the problem, and copy of the contents of the object tag as seen in view source.

There's only one video on that page, so are you sure you're going to the right place?
    rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=904062

There's also a screenshot attached to the post showing what it looks like.

oops. sorry. i was going to the wrong link (virtualsitevisit.org).

i have checked out rcgroups.com. there i do see the one video. and it loads and plays fine for me.

i did notice that your flash is not the most up to date version. can you update and see if that helps? the current version should be v9.0.124

Updated to latest version of Flash Player.
Already at latest version of FF3.
    Problem persisted.
Finally tried starting FF3 in safe mode and it works.
Went to work disabling add-ons and found it on the first try.
Appears to be a bug in the extremely popular AdBlock extension. Even if I tell AdBlock to whitelist vimeo, or shut AdBlock off completely from its own preference menu, all Vimeo embedded objects on rcgroups still don't appear.
If I disable AdBlock as an add-on completely (from FF Ad-on settings), then it works.

Odd thing though is that none of this was broken in FF2 with AdBlock, and that other sites with embedded Vimeo objects still work fine. So while it smells like a bug in AdBlock, it is only triggered by something specific to the way the videos are being embedded by the forum software at rcgroups.com.

I am also having this problem - FF3 simply stops the video about half a second into playing it and just sits there. Here is a link to my blog on which several clips are embedded.

    livingspirit.typepad.com/blog/2008/08/gone-fishing-at-rhode-island-the-complete-webisodes.html

All played fine in FF2 and ironically, IE

I have embeded some of my videos in my website. They did work and now I get the screen 'Sorry, there was a problem loading this video' I am using FF3 but, have had it working under this browser till now. Has it something to do with the moving of your server?
  • Soxiam staff 1 year ago
first try clearing your browser cache AND logging out and back into vimeo from the browser you are having problems with. if the problem persists, please post the URL where your videos are embedded and we will take a look.

Hi thanks for the reply. The problem seems to have fixed itself. Thank you to all the Vimeo team for their customer care.

    I had the same problem.

I was embedding a Vimeo video on a Wordpress.com blog, and it wasn't showing up in FF3. Showed up fine in Safari.

As soon as I disabled AdBlock, the Vimeo video appeared on FF3 and played fine. So looks like AdBlock is the problem.

AdBlock is part of the problem. It doesn't explain why some embedded Vimeo vids still work, even with Adblock enabled, and some don't.

I know I am late to this discussion, but the same problem appears with FF3+ and AdBlock in TGR Forums -- Vimeo vids simply don't appear:

    tetongravity.com/forums/

Disabling AdBlock completely seems to be the only solution.
