What is Vimeo?
Straight up, Vimeo is the home for the videos you create. Vimeo is a community of respectful people who enjoy sharing, collaborating on, and watching videos made by people just like you. Vimeo's mission is to provide creators with a safe and positive environment to share their videos and connect with others, as well as to develop simple and elegant tools and features to present your videos to the people you want.

How do I pronounce “Vimeo?
Vim (rhymes with him) ee (rhymes with bee) oh (rhymes with go). Vim-ee-oh is the correct pronunciation. It's like video with a "me" Or just try your best :)

Will Vimeo always be free?
Yes, Vimeo will always offer a free service for our users. To help support Vimeo and take advantage of all the great tools and features Vimeo offers, we recommend upgrading to Vimeo Plus for $59.95 a year. Or, you can also give Plus as a gift for a friend or family member. Visit http://vimeo.com/plus to upgrade your account.

How do I get involved in the Vimeo Community?
One of the best aspects of Vimeo is our friendly community. Participating in the community is completely optional, but we believe that if you interact with the other users, you'll find the experience to be very rewarding.
The best way to get started is to watch videos and give feedback. When you're perusing Vimeo and you encounter a video you like, leave a comment. Tell that person what you think, why you like the video, or even what you think might help make it better. You can also click the 'Like' button to show your appreciation. Not only does this give the owner of the clip a good feeling, but now they are more likely to check out your videos in return. Then, if they comment on and 'Like' your clips, your videos will be brought to the attention of their contacts too, which will increase the amount of views and activity your clips receive as well.
Make contacts! If you see someone's videos you like, add them as a contact and subscribe to their videos. That way you will always see what they upload as well as see the videos they 'Like' on Vimeo. The more you interact, the more members of the community you will meet.
Get involved in the Community Forums. Try looking in the Projects Forum to see if there are any cool projects you can participate in. If you're new, Vimeo Projects are a great way to start making videos, and have fun with people from all over the world.
As long as you maintain a respectful attitude towards the people you encounter and explore the many creative videos our members upload, you can have a very positive experience on Vimeo. So explore a little and have fun! -

I don't know how to make videos. Where do I even start?
You don't need to be a Steven Speilberg to make videos. All you just need is a camera, and a little motivation. There are all kinds of videos on Vimeo made by all kinds of different people. Some people make videos with their little digital point and shoot camera that has video, others are professionals who make a living from making videos, then there are the people in between who make edited videos with slightly nicer video cameras. Whatever kind of video creator you may be, there are always great videos on Vimeo to get inspired by and we love any kind of video you create.
If you're a beginner, start by making a video of what's in your refrigerator and upload that. If you're feeling slightly more jazzed, try editing a video using an editing program. Most computers come with some sort of basic editing software, and the more you practice editing video with it, the more rewarding it will be. To practice editing a video, try making a 5 Vignettes - 5, 5 second video clips put together to make a short video. As you become more familiar with editing, try to make similar videos that you find on Vimeo. You can also join different Groups and ask other users questions about how they make their videos.
Go for it! -
▲
What are the recommended settings for uploading a video?
Okay, we're going to be honest with you: there's no way we can make exporting/compression guides for every kind of video software on the market. It's just overwhelming! However, we do want to give you some guidelines for compressing your videos for Vimeo, so look over these tips, find the corresponding settings in your software, and you should be able to make it work for you. Note: Sometimes these settings are in "Advanced" or "Options" when exporting.
Codec
A codec is the format in which your video will be encoded. Different codecs have different features and varying quality. For best results, we recommend using H.264 (sometimes referred to as MP4) for the video codec and AAC (short for Advanced Audio Codec) for the audio codec. If you're on a Windows machine, WMV3 is a good choice for video codec.
Frame rate & Keyframes
If there is an option that says "current," it is best to just go with that. Otherwise, this is usually 30 fps (frames per second) for USA, Canada, and Japan, while in Europe and rest of the world it's usually 25 fps. If there is an option for keyframes, use the same value you used for framerate.
Data rate
This setting controls both the visual quality of the video and how big the file will be. In most video editors, this is done in terms of kilobits per second (kbits/sec or kbps). Use 2000 kbits/sec for standard definition 4:3 video, 3000 kbits/sec for widescreen DV, or 5000 kbits/sec for high definition footage.
Deinterlace
If you have this option, enable it. If you shoot in DV format, this is an especially important. If you do not deinterlace, you will often get weird-looking horizontal lines in your video.
Resolution
640x480 for standard definition 4:3 video, 853x480 for widescreen DV, or 1280x720 for high definition. It is also best to export 1920x1080 or 1440x1080 video as 1280x720 too, since we will automatically scale it down. If you have the option to control the pixel aspect ratio (not display aspect ratio) make sure it's set to "1:1" or "1.00", also sometimes called "square pixels."
Audio Settings
Choose AAC for the audio codec. You'll want to set the bit rate to 320 kbps and the sample rate to 44.100 kHz.
Those are the basic principles that will apply to almost all of the video programs out there. Eugenia, an active member in the Vimeo community, has made some tutorials for specific programs that you can view:
• Tutorial: Vimeo HD exporting guides from many editors
• Tutorial: From miniDV to Vimeo high quality. -

How do I upload a Video?
Go to the upload page. Or, you can click the 'Upload Video' button on the home page or find a link in the top navigation bar under the heading 'Upload'. That will bring you to the upload page where you can upload your video. Make sure you have thoroughly read the rules for what kind of videos you can upload (only ones you make yourself!) and hit the 'choose a file to upload' button, select the file you want to upload from your computer, and hit 'Select'. Your video will magically start uploading to our services and you will see a progress bar telling you how long it will take.
play
Note: slower connections and large files will take longer so please be patient.
After you video is finished uploading, it will go through a conversion process. You can monitor that process with a progress bar as well. While the video is converting you may leave that page and Vimeo will send you an email when its finished. Now that's not too hard, is it?
-
▲
If something goes wrong, or doesn’t work, what should I do?
Try again! Sometimes the best way to fix a problem is to try it again. If your problem doesn’t work after multiple attempts, try holding down the shift button on your keyboard and pushing the reload button on your browser. This method resets the cache in your browser which will often clear up any problems. If this method still doesn’t work, quit your browser and reopen it and try again. If the problem still persists, look in the Help Center for answers.

Can I use Vimeo for my business or for commercial purposes?
Vimeo is for noncommercial use only. If your intent is to use Vimeo as a hosting service for your business, or promoting a product or service, then you are not allowed to use Vimeo. For more information, please read the Community Guidelines.
-
▲
How do I get people to watch my videos?
Vimeo is not a sea of eyeballs that you must trick into increasing your view count. It is a vibrant community of intelligent and creative people. We strongly encourage you to find people who share your interests and connect with them here.
How do I do that? Interact with people!
The more you interact with the community by liking and commenting on their videos, the more they will be interested in watching your videos and getting to know you in return. To start, we recommend joining some Groups that may interest you or subscribing to some Channels. You should also think about participating in some of the many great Vimeo projects in our Projects Forum. -
▲
How do I get my videos featured?
The staff features videos that they think exemplify the best of the best of what Vimeo is all about. If you would like to have your video considered as a Staff Pick or added to the HD Channel, use the shoutbox in each channel to post a link to your video and we'll try to check it out. Please refrain from sending messages to Staff members to watch your videos, that doesn't work that well ;)
-

How do I log out?
You can log out either by selecting "log out" under Me from the top navigation menu, or going directly to vimeo.com/log_out

How do I share a video with my friends and family?
You can share a video with anyone, even people who are not members of Vimeo. Move your mouse over the video window. This will bring up the video controls. Click the 'Share' button. Now you can enter email addresses for non-members or Vimeo members' user names. Add a personal message if you'd like, then click the 'share' button. They will receive an email with a link to your video. That's it!
-
▲
Can I upload more than one video at a time?
No, you may only upload one video at a time.
-
▲
How many videos can I upload?
Basic account users can upload 500 MB a week (with a max of 10 files per day). Plus users can upload 5 GB (1 GB per file) per week, and there is no per-day upload limit.
This quota resets weekly, and your personal reset day can be seen on the right side of the Upload Page, along with how much space you have remaining this week. Videos that you upload remain on the site, so you can upload 500 MB of videos this week, and another 500 MB next week, and they'll all be there for the watchin'. -
▲
Are there limits on file sizes or file types for uploads?
There is a 1 GB per file limit for Plus users, which does not affect Basic account users.
We accept the following file types: asf, asx, avi, divx, dv, dvx, m4v, mov, mp4, mpeg, mpg, qt, wmv, 3g2, 3gp, 3ivx and 3vx
Please note: There are a million variables in video compression. Sometimes, even though a file type is accepted by the Vimeo uploader, the Vimeo conversion will fail. Take a look at our recommended compression settings to make sure your video plays well with Vimeo. -
▲
What is compression? Should I compress my videos before uploading them?
Compressing a video reduces the file size. While it can take time to compress a video, it will be a faster upload, and also a faster download for anyone you choose to share the original file with. We strongly recommend you compress the videos you upload to Vimeo. You'll be able to upload more videos that way!
Please see our compression suggestions for the best advice on how to do it. -
▲
How do I compress my video?
Please take a look at our handy recommended compression settings for the best advice on how to compress your video.
-
▲
Can I ever access/download the original video file I uploaded?
Yes! Go to the video's individual page where you watch and comment on that video. Down the right side of the page, below the statistics, is the download module. Please note the following-
Basic accounts' original source files are stored for one week from the upload date, after which they are removed. After one week you will still be able to download the converted file (in MP4 format). Vimeo Plus users always have access to their original source files with no time restrictions.
If you choose not to renew your Plus service, your original videos will be stored for one month past the end of your subscription to give you time to download your videos or decide on renewal. Additionally, if a basic user upgrades to Plus within the one week window after they upload a video, that original file will be kept as long as they are a Plus member.
Is your browser loading and playing the video instead of downloading it? Try right-clicking the download link and choosing the "Save as" option. -
▲
Are there limits on downloading original video files?
We feel that it's important to allow users to download the original, uploaded video file, if the owner of the video chooses to allow it. We provide this feature so that you can see the video
exactly as the videomaker intended it to be seen. However, we also have to guard against over-use of this feature. By being cautious with our bandwidth costs, we will be able to provide the Vimeo for years to come; hopefully until your great-grandkids log on to watch your videos.
Vimeo members with Basic accounts are limited to downloading 5 original video files in a 24-hour period. Each original video file on Vimeo can be downloaded a maximum of 100 times per day. Please note that users with Basic accounts have the ability to make available their original source file for up to week from the upload date. After that time only the converted, MP4, version of the video will be down-loadable. Plus users always have the ability to make available and download their original source files.
Just to be totally clear here, we're talking about the video file that you uploaded, and which can be downloaded using the link on the right side of the page where you watch the video. This restriction is not related to the streaming video you watch in the Vimeo player. -
▲
I want to use a video I saw on Vimeo. Do I need permission?

First thing's first, make sure you actually uploaded an HD video. Please be advised that in order to receive the HD treatment, your HD video needs to be greater than 4:3 aspect ratio and at least 1280 pixels wide.
Vimeo allows Basic members to upload one HD video per week, so if you upload two HD videos within the same week, only the first will show in HD, the other will appear in SD.

Why are videos stuttering?
We know stuttering is annoying, and there are many possible reasons why you may be experiencing poor video playback. Vimeo requires a better than average internet connection and computer processor, so if you have a slow connection or older computer, you may experience issues. If not, here are a few things you can try:
1) Make sure you have the latest version of Flash running on your computer. You can check what version you have here: vimeo.com/help/flash
2) Please turn off any other programs, virus protection, ad block, or energy saving settings as they may interfere with video playback.
3) Try another browser and see if that helps. -

What are tags?
Tags are keywords or terms that describe your video. For example, if you tag your Hawaii vacation video with the words 'Hawaii' and 'vacation', you'll be able to easily find other related videos and it makes it easier for other Vimeo users to find your videos. Everybody wins!
-
▲
Is there a limit on the number of tags I can add to a video?
You are limited to 20 tags on your videos. We encourage you to add only relevant tags as too many tags can make your video harder to find.
-
▲
Why should I tag my videos?
Tagging your videos makes it easier for other Vimeo users to find them in searches and on tags pages. This way, folks can find your videos that interest them more easily.
-
▲
I've tagged my videos, why aren't my they appearing in searches?
If you have just recently uploaded a new video, or just recently made it public, it may take a little while to show up in our search results. If your videos do not appear in search results after a day, try adding more relevant terms to the description or title of your video, that will help.
-
▲
Can I subscribe to a tag?
You betcha! Visit vimeo.com/tag:XXXX and then click the check mark on the top right of the page to subscribe to that tag. Then, every video with that tag will show up in your inbox.

▲
What does 'embedding' mean?

-
▲

-
▲
Why isn't the embed button showing up on some videos?

Only moderators and Channel creators can add videos to a Channel. To add moderators to your Channel, click the 'Settings' button on your Channel page and follow the instructions in the 'Members' tab.
-
▲
What is the difference between a Group and a Channel?
A Group is a mini-community within Vimeo that allows people to interact and share with each other. A Channel is user-curated destination to watch videos. The main different between the two is that a Group is intended for users to collaborate, share, and discuss videos with other members, while a Channel is intended as a destination to watch videos. We recommend exploring both features before deciding which is best for you. Explore Channels and Groups.
-
▲
Can I change the name of my Channel?
Absolutely. To change the name of your channel, click the 'Settings' button on your Channel and change any information you wish. Make sure to click 'Update Settings' at the bottom of the page to save your new information.
-
▲
How do I customize my Channel and make it look all snazzy?
To change the theme and logo of your Channel, click 'Settings' on your Channel page. From there click 'Theme and logo' on the menu and snazz away!
-
▲
How do I find Channels I may want to Subscribe to?
You can search for Channels by using the search box at the top of your screen. We also recommend visiting the Channels homepage for featured Channels on Vimeo and links to categories of different Channels.
-
▲
How do I unsubscribe from a Channel?
If you want to unsubscribe from a Channel go to that Channel and click the 'Unsubscribe' button.
-
▲
How do I delete my Channel?
If you decide to delete your Channel, go to your Channel homepage and click 'Settings.' Then click the orange 'Delete Channel' button and follow the instructions.
-
▲
Why can't I add videos to a Channel?
If you're trying to add a video to a Channel and it is not working, the owner of the video probably chose to disable that function for their video. If you think it's an absolute perfect fit for your Channel, you can always send the owner a nice email requesting they allow that video to be added to a Channel.
-
▲
Can I create a custom URL for my Channel?
Yes. Click the 'Settings' button on your Channel and under the 'Details' tab on the menu to the left click 'Shortcut URL' and follow the instructions.
-
▲
What if I add private videos to a Channel?
If you add a private video to a Channel, that video will become public in that Channel only. The private video will always retain its privacy outside of the channel, but adding it to a public Channel means you are giving permission for that video to be viewed in the Channel you add it to.
-
▲
How does Channel Privacy work?
You can choose who can view your Channel by clicking the 'Settings' button and then 'Membership' in the menu of the left. You can select from the following privacy options:
• Everybody can see this channel - means everyone in the whole world can view your channel.
• Only moderators can see this Channel - means only the moderators you have added to your channel can view that channel
• Only moderators and the people I choose can see this Channel - means pretty much what it says.
Note: Setting your Channel privacy to anything other than "Everybody" will remove all current subscribers who are not moderators or people you have specifically chosen. -
▲
What is the difference between a Channel and my profile?
Your Channel is a place to collect and showcase videos you upload or see on Vimeo. Your profile is your home base. People will go to your profile to see what you look like, your bio, and any other information you feel like sharing about yourself.
-
▲
Why do some Channels look different than others?
Vimeo lets you change the theme, layout, and logo of your Channel. To change yours, click the 'Settings' button on your Channel page and select 'Theme and Logo'.
-
▲
What is the shout box?
The shout box is a way for other Vimeo users to send you a quick message that will show up on your Channel. Use the Shout Box to leave a nice comment, or to let someone know about a video that would be perfect for their Channel.

-
▲
What is the difference between adding a contact and subscribing to someone's videos?
Adding someone as a contact let's them know you are a fan of their videos. Subscribing to someone's videos will make their videos show up in your inbox. You can subscribe to someone's videos without making them a contact or can also make someone a contact without subscribing to their videos. However, most people do both!
-
▲
Can I add anyone as a contact?
You can add anyone as a contact.
-
▲
Is it okay to add people as contacts if I don't know them?
Sure. Ask yourself this questions: Do I want to watch this users' videos? If so, then make them a contact and maybe leave them a message telling them what you think of their videos. Remember, adding contacts can be a way to bookmark the people you like on Vimeo, as well as keep up to date on the videos they upload and the videos they like. Adding thousands of contacts does not mean that those users will see your video, it just means you will see theirs! Also, adding over 1000 contacts can often lead to slow loading times on your homepage and subscription pages because Vimeo has to load tons of your contacts' data!
-
▲
Can I block someone from adding me as a contact?
No, anyone can add anyone as a contact. If someone gives you trouble or if you are worried about someone who has added you, please alert our Support Staff at abuse@vimeo.com
-
▲
Why should I add people as contacts?

-
▲
Is there a limit on the number of contacts I can have?
You are limited to adding 1,000 contacts. This is to ensure optimal site performance. Choose wisely!
-
▲
What if I don't want to be someone's contact?
There is currently no way to block users from adding you as a contact.

My upload stopped or got stuck at a certain percentage. Why can't I upload to Vimeo?
Make sure your connection to the Internet is rock solid. Try not to have too much going on in other tabs or browsers as long files tend to get hung up if there is too much other activity. Please turn off any virus protection or ad block, or energy saving settings! If you still have trouble, make sure you are running the latest version of your Flash Player - vimeo.com/help/flash
Then go to your video file. Make sure your video is exported to these settings: vimeo.com/help/compression The closer you are to those settings, the more easily your source file will upload to Vimeo. -

▲
I uploaded a 16:9 (widescreen) video but Vimeo squished it to 4:3, what gives?
Vimeo uses square pixels when converting your video. You will need to export your videos with square pixels and manually set your aspect ratio to 853x480 for widescreen DV, or 1280x720 for high definition. Read our recommended compression settings for more information.
-

-
▲
What happens if I upload a video without editing any information?
If you do not edit any of your information, your video will be made private. Your video will also show up as "Untitled" with no description or tags. You should definitely edit these so people can more easily find your video. To edit these settings, go to the video page and click 'Settings.' From there you can edit the title, tags, and description.
-
▲
What happened to my fade to black?
Occasionally issues with black or blank frames being dropped or lost can crop up. This is because editing programs tend to drop the frame rate in clip portions that are black to 1FPS, which can be then be interpreted as blank by the Vimeo system, this can cause sync issues. An easy fix is to insert a "slug" (also known as a black shape or image) to keep the frame rate normal in the editor, therefore keeping your videos and our machines happy!

-
▲
Why am I getting an error saying my file is too small to upload?
Videos have to be at least 200KB in size to be valid. This is because many people accidentally create "reference movies" when trying to export from QuickTime and other video editing programs. Reference files don't contain any actual video, just links to the files. When exporting from QuickTime, always choose the "save as self-contained" option.

What is HD?
HD stands for “high definition”, which is the highest quality form of video available today. HD video is richer, clearer, and more life-like than standard TV and even DVDs. It’s a major leap in technology that doesn’t take an expert to appreciate.
-
▲
Is it the same as HDTV?
HDTV is one of the first major applications of high definition video. Because HD requires so much more data than regular TV, engineers devised a way to broadcast TV signals as compressed digital information rather than directly over analog waves. They defined two video formats for HDTV called 720p and 1080i, which refer to the number of horizontal lines used to produce the image.
-
▲
Is Vimeo HD the same as HDTV?
Vimeo presents HD in the 720p format, exactly the same resolution (1280×720) used by major broadcast networks like ABC, FOX, and many cable & satellite providers.
-
▲
How can I start watching Vimeo videos in HD right now?
Visit the Vimeo HD Channel and watch any of the clips in full screen mode, you'll see why HD is amazing.
-
▲
But wait, it can't really be HD… can it?
Yes! It’s real, true, actual high definition. No tricks! Some other sites (we won’t name names) and even a few major media producers have been offering low resolution video as “HD” just because it’s slightly higher than the quality typically seen on video sharing web sites, hoping you won’t notice. Don’t be fooled, Vimeo HD is true 1280×720, up to 30fps in MP4 media format.
-
▲
Can I upload in HD right now?
Yes. To take advantage of HD, all you have to do is upload a clip that’s 1280×720 resolution or better. Our servers will make a standard quality version first, then a little later your clip will appear in HD.
-
▲
Can you recommend some encoding settings for HD?
Yes. Basic account members enjoy a weekly quota of 500MB, so it’s a good idea to compress your video down from phenomenally high quality to just amazingly high quality.
We recommend using the H.264 codec at size 1280×720, bit rate 3000-5000 kbits/sec (optimized for “download”), key frame every 30 frames (frame reordering on), using whatever frame rate you shot in.
For sound, use AAC at 128kbps in stereo. -
▲
Should I deinterlace before I upload?
It's almost always a good idea. If you're outputting 1080i, deinterlace and resize to 1280×720 before you upload. In many cases if your final outcome is a progressive medium (web, LCD TVs, HD-DVD, etc.) you might be better off deinterlacing before you even start editing.
-
▲
Why is my video only 640×368?
HD video is so big that it can’t fit in the width of a regular web page, so we show it at half size. To see the whole image, go into full screen mode by clicking the full screen button in the lower right of the player. The native size of Vimeo HD files is 1280×720.
-
▲
What happens when I upload my HDV and AVCHD videos in 1440x1080?
Vimeo converts all HDV and AVCHD videos shot at 1440x1080 (aspect ratio 1.3333) to its correct and intended playback of 1280x720 (pixel aspect ratio 1.0000). What that means in English, is that 1440x1080 videos are shot in anamorphic (wide) standards instead of 16:9, and previously those videos would appear squished upon conversion to Vimeo. This change will affect anyone uploading their videos in letterbox 1440x1080, so we recommend not to letterbox videos at that aspect ratio.
-
▲
What happens if I upload 1920 x 1080 footage, will Vimeo accept it?
Vimeo will accept this footage and display it at 1280x720 resolution. However for better image quality we suggest resizing your video to 1280x720 prior to uploading.
-
▲
Can I watch HD in native 1280×720 with no scaling?
Yes, click the full screen button in the lower right corner of the player, then click the button right above it 'scaling off' to toggle scaling. Your preference will be saved for all HD videos you watch.
-
▲
Do I need any special software to watch HD?
Nope, all you need is the current version of the Adobe Flash pluggin, which you probably already have. If you're not sure you can check by clicking here: get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
-
▲
Do I need a fast computer for HD?
We’ve found that most computers made in the last three or four years (running either Mac OS X or Windows) are fast enough to play butter-smooth HD. In some cases, you may realize a major performance gain by quitting unused programs and closing extra browser windows. Our player is designed to degrade the video quality gracefully if it detects that it’s dropping frames.
-
▲
Do I need a fast internet connection for HD videos?
Most residential cable and DSL connections should be more than adequate. If HD feels slow to load, trying turning off any background downloads or peer-to-peer sharing applications. Or push the play button in the player and then pause to let the video buffer before viewing.
-
▲
Is my monitor capable of showing HD?
All modern computer monitors are similar in resolution to HD, if not better. Your computer is a sleeping HD beast, Vimeo will rouse it from its slumber.
-
▲
Will Vimeo HD work with my HDTV?
Absolutely. If you can connect your computer to your HDTV (for example, using an inexpensive DVI to HDMI adapter) Vimeo will look gorgeous in full screen, comparable with broadcast digital TV.
-
▲
My HD video did not convert to an HD version on Vimeo, what should I do?
Vimeo allows Basic members to upload one HD video per week, so if you upload two HD videos within the same week, only the first will show in HD, the other will appear in SD.
If an unusual amount of time has passed, and the HD version is still not up, make sure you are using our recommended compression settings and try again. Please be advised that in order to receive the HD treatment, your HD video needs to be greater than 4:3 aspect ratio and at least 1280 pixels wide. -
▲
I just have a point and shoot pocket camera, can I still upload HD videos?/ Do I need a special camera to upload HD?
Point and shoot cameras that can take video in 1280x720 resolution are becoming more common these days. Check the specifications on your camera for details.
-
▲
Other sites have HD video and it's free, why should I use Vimeo?
Because Vimeo is the awesomest!
These days HD is becoming more and more common. What sets Vimeo apart from all the other sharing services is our amazing features for your videos and our wonderful community. You're not going to find a bunch of TV clips or video ads on Vimeo, but you will find creative videos and friendly people that you won't find anywhere else. We recommend contacting the site administrator and asking them nicely to remove your videos. Another option is to make your videos private using any of the privacy settings. Or if you want total control, you can choose which specific sites can embed your video, a tool available with Vimeo Plus.

What is the Vimeo API and what can I do with it?
The Vimeo API, or Application Programming Interface, is a way for developers to gain access to certain parts of the Vimeo website in order to create application using data from Vimeo. The Simple API is a very simple interface to access lots of data from Vimeo. You can get data via JSON, XML, and serialized PHP. You do not need a Developer API Key to use the Simple API.
The Advanced APIis more complicated than the Simple API, but you can get a lot more data from it. You will need a Developer API Key to use the Advanced API. If you want to test out the Advanced API, head over to the Sandbox.

The site is acting weird! Things aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing. What gives??
If something doesn't work, Try again! You may also try signing out of your Vimeo account and signing back in. If the problem still persists, try looking in the forums for answers.

How do I discover more videos I might like?
Lots of places! First you can start on the Discover Tab. The Discover Tab highlights the most 'liked' videos from the week.
Explore Channel to find videos curated around certain themes that might interest you. If you find Channels that look cool, subscribe to them and those videos will show up in your inbox whenever they are updated. Explore Channels!
Groups are also a great place to explore videos. Groups are communities within Vimeo that you can join and share videos with. There are TONS of Groups on Vimeo and we encourage you to join Groups to meet new people and find the great videos people create for that Group. Joining a Group also means any video added to that group will show up in our inbox so you can always see what gets added! Explore Groups!
As soon as you find videos that you like, we encourage you to explore the rest of that users' videos to see if you want to make them a contact. Adding someone as a contact automatically subscribes you to his or her videos and the videos he or she 'likes', which will show up in your inbox.
The Activity tab on your homepage is also another great way to discover videos that people are liking and commenting on right now. You can sort that activity by all users or your contacts only, to see what everyone is watching.
Vimeo Toys is a real-time visualizations of activity going on on the site right now. Its a really cool way to see what hot on Vimeo and what people are talking about.
We recommend exploring the site and you'll find even more great ways to find videos you will enjoy! -

How can I get my video in the Staff Picks or the HD Channel?
The best way to have your videos chosen for Staff Picks or the HD Channel is to make good videos! Then, post a link to your video in the shoutbox of either of those channels and the staff will try to watch them. Please DO NOT send messages to staff members asking them to watch your videos, that does not work well.
