Pietro Impagliazzo commented on Canon 7D: Flatten for more latitude in post? Part 2/2

    Matt, yes I've checked.

I did extensive testing with my FX7 and came to the conclusion that ANY kind of digital sharpening, saturation and contrast is bad, just takes freedom from post, specially CC.

Since then the first thing I do when shooting for post on any camera is just flatenning the look.

From those looks the ProLost is clearly the best.

Usually, something that gives you the WOW factor was also shot on a RED camera, with top actors, nicely directed, with a crazy beautiful cinematography.

Usually, these pieces have the budget to go to a Scracth or Da Vinci system, that's why it's hard to catch something like this graded on MBL.

One of the most impressive CC reels I've seen was this one: vimeo.com/6425785

The guy just used AE, not one single plugin or standalone app.

Actually Steven, you can only have something against who graded, MBL is a perfectly capable tool. :)

However, as a beginner in CC without any decent hardware or software to help me, it's hard to pay attention to subtleties, be it because It's hard for me to notice or my monitor can't show colors properly.

IMO the diffusion is what adds the cheesy factor to lots of MBL graded images.

Matt, your latitude test was quite nice. As David Mullen once said over RED User "it's always easier to add contrast than to remove." (not very related to CC if IIRC) but flat images will always be better for manipulating.

I'm a future 7D owner and that's nice footage to watch.

    Thanks.

HD Look? But it's not like the 7D is ultra-sharp.

Doesn't toning down digital sharpness (can we on the 7D) takes care of the HD sharp look?
