The 'Great Street Games' was a giant, networked inter-city game played between Gateshead, Middlesbrough and Sunderland (all in the North East of England) between 28th October and 1st November 2009. The piece was created to explore a sense of connection and playfulness in multiple urban open spaces, […]

Strange Attractors (The Anatomy of Dr. Tulp) is a kinetic light installation exploring the relationships between human bodies, both real and imagined. A prone figure lies in the centre of an empty square, and passers by are invited to participate in the ritualistic exploration of the environment. Strange […]

Some footage from the first night of Waves in Chelmsford. The area we're using is outside County Hall, in a modest square that doesn't usually have any significance for passers-by other than as a route from A to B. Another tangent from the development of a new installation in Max/MSP/Jitter. This one uses a gravitational model combined with motion tracking to control the behaviour of 300 or so particles. Also a first experiment in rendering to texture with jit.gl.lua to create motion blur on only some elements of the scene.

Modelling a changing magnetic field and displaying it using simulated 'iron filings'. This came about as a tangent to the development of a new installation to be launched in Feb. 2009. The calculation of the magnetic field is done on the GPU to keep things running quickly: this sketch runs at 30fps on […]

A sketch done in Jitter based on the beginnings of an idea used for 'The Hive', and using some techniques found in Robert Hodgin's code for his early magnetosphere experiments. Music is Philip Glass. The imagery is generated in real-time but the DOF effect was applied afterwards.
