    alright, let's do this! i have a car and i have never been to Big Sur. we can definitely stop on our way to SF to visit my homie Chris Garcia and everyone else. i have a couple of disclaimers:

    #1 it would have to be on a weekend (between friday and monday) because i couldnt take that many days off of work in the middle of the week.

    #2 commitment. i never make plans so far in advance because something always comes up and i dont keep a calendar. so, barring a friend's bday or something else that demands me staying in LA i say i'm down like Charlie Brown. regardless of the ride up, you guys have a place to stay and a tour guide of the best places in LA!

    that sounds cool to me erick, i absolutly understand that you cannot make plance so far in advance, but i appreciate you are down for it, and i hope that nothing comes in between :)
    YAY

    LA tourguide and place to stay sounds great to me, and the ride up would make it PERFECT.

    thank you so much!

    Okay, I just checked Greyhound Bus ticket prices...
    If we can't find rides, this is what we'll have to pay to get from place to place by bus...

    These are prices for 2 people to travel. We get a discounted rate for traveling together and for purchasing the tickets well in advance.

    NEW YORK -> BALTIMORE
    $40.00 (E-fare)
    $54.00 (14-day advance purchase)
    $58.00 (7-day advance purchase)
    $78.00 (companion fare)

    BALTIMORE -> LOUSIVILLE
    $90.00 (14-day advance purchase)
    $98.00 (7-day advance purchase)
    $118.50 (companion fare)

    LOUISVILLE -> CINCINNATI
    $35.25 (companion fare)

    CHICAGO -> ST. LOUIS
    $44.00 (Hot Seat Special)
    $60.75 (companion fare)

    ST LOUIS -> TULSA
    $72.00 (14-day advance purchase)
    $78.00 (7-day advance purchase)
    $118.50 (companion fare)

    TULSA -> SANTA FE
    $90.00 (14-day advance purchase)
    $98.00 (7-day advance purchase)
    $174.00 (companion fare)

    SANTA FE -> LOS ANGELES
    $108.00 (companion fare)
    $117.00 (14-day advance purchase)

    --- If we got the cheapest prices it would be about $480 total to travel by bus. If we had to take the bus up to SF it would be an additional $50-$75

    so the total cost of travel within the states would be between $240 - $275 each. Not too bad for traveling to all those states.

    Some of the fares might not be available for long, so we need to know for sure about New York - Baltimore & Chicago - St. Louis. It might be best to just plan on going by bus to those places, as the fare is quite low and possibly even cheaper than paying for gas.

    One more thing... if we travel by bus...

    I just signed up for Road Rewards
    greyhound.com/roadrewards/benefits.aspx

    If I purchase 6 one way trip tickets, I get this:
    One FREE Companion Pass with a paid full-fare ticket. Also receive a one-time 15% ticket discount for yourself. (You also receive a 10% discount on food and beverages)

    ... not too bad, huh? I think traveling by bus might work out if we can't find rides.

    hmm...
    i am not sure if we should buy the bus tickets too soon, because i have also been thinking about skipping baltimore, cause caroline said she will probably not be there in summer, then from cincinnati to cleveland we'll probably go with cameron / his mom.

    also, i am still thinking dre might go the route 66 with us or we find some other crazy person who would do it. because if we went all the way by bus, it would not make too much sence to me, as the busses drive on interstates only (i suppose), and you don't get the route 66 feeling at all.

    still, busses are something we have to consider for parts of the trip, i am sure. but i think we should wait a bit longer and see what other people say, as it is still 7 months before everything starts! ;)

    Hey Hannah and Victoria! I'm from Detroit, but I could totally give you two (plus up to two more) a ride from Cleveland to Chicago (well 90% sure right now, depends on school and work). I would love to meet fellow Vimeans ^_^
  • HannahMai 6 months ago
    heyy, we changed the plans and probably won't go to cleveland now... but thanks anyways :)

    Did you check out trains at all? Sometimes those are cheaper! Also, SkyBus...
  • Pam Newman 6 months ago
    Cameron brings up a good point! Also check out megabus! The earlier in advance you book the cheaper the rate.

    I have no idea how I forgot about them.
