In celebration of a ten-day trip we're taking to Colombia with our friend Paul and his family in Bogotá, we prepared 4 authentic dishes with the help of Patricia McCausland-Gallo's book Secrets of Colombian Cooking. While selecting recipes, we picked a few that require prep times of 3 hours or more, and when we asked Paul if this would take up too much of the night, he said, "You have to learn to eat like Colombians do ... late and long." Indeed, the meal took 6 hours from start to finish. A new Copy and Taste record. We leave tomorrow to taste the real thing, and what a superb feeling to know we've earned it! Reggie usually warms up; the third song is almost always the most creative and otherwise "best". The next one might be with three HD cameras. Three is enough angles if we want to boil down the idea. When I first envisioned the editing, I thought it would cut regularly on the beat. When I got into Final Cut and played with that, it felt wrong. It was as if the editing were calling attention to itself. It felt forced. So instead I went for a more organic feel. I was trying to make the editing subtle so that it disappeared. I really like how the end has me, Zach, and Jonathan in the background. I like that I don't appear until the end - that was not intentional.

When I was little I used to make videos with my (parents') video camera. It had a bug/feature. If you pressed the "record" button twice, rapidly, while the camera was in standby mode, it would record exactly six frames of video. This allowed me to create stop-motion videos of a consistent speed, although that speed was less than ideal (5 fps instead of 30). Now, with the advent of digital video editing, I can finally play those old videos at their intended speed!

I went to SXSW Interactive with Zach and Ricky. We were hoping to win an award for Vimeo, but we didn't. Ricky was on a panel and was excellent. This first shot on the plane with Noah was the end of a much longer shot of him nodding off... about a 2 minute shot. After he woke up, he said he would kill me if I posted it. The second shot, the one in the car with Ricky... I was listening to Brian Eno on my headphones, and then I held the headphones up to the camera speaker. You can't tell in the shot, but I'm wearing an official (?) Miller High Life hat.
