mondo

Mondo has been involved creatively in the UK club/party scene since the early eighties starting out in Leeds in 1983 and the legendary Head club in Camden in 1989, laying down psychedelic visuals to early gigs from the likes of Stereolab and Gallon Drunk, and putting on lush house parties to drool over.

Realising there was more to life than a Solar 250 and a box of 35mm slides, he reverted to his training in architecture and exhibition design, learning how to create amazing spaces and controlling emotions through form and light. He has worked extensively with galleries at the National Maritime Museum, the Saudi Arabia pavilion at the Lisbon Expo 1998 and designed the Faith Zone at the Millennium Dome in partnership with Eva Jiricna Architects.

In 1997 the Raya multi-media co-operative invited Mondo to show his particular blend of global timelapsed visuals at the ICA, London and a solid creative/artistic association was made which endures to this day. The design and implementation of the club tent and its environs at Big Chill Enchanted Garden 1999 was an early highlight, as were the Dedbeat weekenders 2001 & 2002. Raya have risen to further prominence and success with their support of the anti-globalisation and anti-war movements which have seen the crew stage manage and perform in front of over 100,000 people at trafalgar square on several occassions.

With advances in digital technology and the rise of the VJ, Mondo has been able to further showcase and perform his visual output at regular SoxaN clubnights, hosted with other hardcore Big Chillers and participate at the first VJs.net showcase at Ocean, 2002.

More recently, Mondo has given educational workshops at the annual VJ conference AVITUK, NESTA and withe teh British Council and arts Council England. He is a strong supportive member of the global VJ community.

Nowadays Mondo is experimenting and extending his visuals/architectural crossover repertoire through narrative creation via radical a/v clip sampling and collaborating in live telematics and teleprescence with international performers and dance groups.

He is creative director of BodyDataSpace, a research and development company formed to investigate body responsive technologies, virtual/physical interfaces and the integration of intelligent systems within architectural spaces.
