My first reflection is that although the central entity is potentially quite three-dimensional, the environment/background make it appear flat.
Perhaps adding more elements in the background, with subtle perspective cues, would make the piece pop out a bit more! -

It is a classic demoscene effect, where you render the graphics to an offscreen buffer, and then either apply the image as a texture to a screen-sized rectangle that you repeat multiple times, alternatively create multiple scaled down versions of the image, which you then again blend together and display on a screen-sized rectangle.
Using the GLGraphics library is an easy way into working in this manner: users.design.ucla.edu/~acolubri/processing/glgraphics/home/
