    oh that... i was using a pd object that maps signals to pixels - i think it's called sig2pix. it has rgb inputs and you can combine waveforms into the inputs to make patterns. you can do this with live audio too so it reacts but best results if you filter - bass, mid, treble first.

    thanks. when i was doing this stuff i was using Pd and GEM and mapping the pixels to some kind of surface (square, cube, etc) and then rotating it. when you get inside the cube and it's rotating you get this kind of effect. GEM is a wrapper on openGL so you could do the same with anything that calls openGL. actually... anything that supports 3d objects would work.
