Canon XH-A1 Delivered
I have received the Canon XH-A1 from Newegg last week and have had a chance to play with the unit. Fortunately, I knew what to expect from the camera from watching the A1 user group on DVInfo.net.
I've had a chance to play with several cameras before my eventual purchase. After a week of just playing around with the camera, I must say I am quite impressed.
The big brother of this camera the XL-H1, proved to be just too bulky for my taste. The removable lens and Jackpack just weren't reasons enough for me to go with the XL.
The form factor and less bulk is just what I was looking for in the A1. The controls are placed nicely. I've read complaints about the XLR and onboard mic not being able to be used at the same time ... I've yet to deal with this, however, I can see it being a problem. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
The customization of the A1 is where the camera shines against its competition. Being able to fine tune the color of the camera is the ultimate plus for me.
The downside to this unit would really prove to be the same downside with any handheld camera ... lack of support. While the camera isn't what I would deem as heavy, it gets heavy quickly. It's a bit weird to handle, however, I don't plan to use the unit without some form of support.
I don't mean for this to be a review of the camera ... just thought I would post something for persons looking to purchase their HD camera. I'll post more as I continue to use the A1.
In short, GET IT!
