Local Conversations had a chance to interview Gwen Bell from Tech Stars while on an East Coast network swing. Gwen who attended UNC has traveled from Carrboro/Chapel Hill, to Boulder Colorado, back to Carrboro and now back to Boulder Colorado to work for Tech Stars. Gwen who also represents Colorado startups and I had a few moments to chat about her role with both companies, her journey form Carolina to Boulder and places in between. We also talked about how important personal branding is online and what advice she would give to anyone who’s looking to launch a startup. We covered other topics such as are we seeing a new feminist movement online with women being the new face of tech such as Amanda Congdon (I said Amanda Moody, sorry Amanda), Veronica Belmont and Tara Hunt. Arrived in 1976 while boat-people were escaping the newly set up communist regim, Quân was born during the Second World War. After a PHd in philosophy in 1970, he became a teacher at Saïgon university. Five years later, American soldiers left. Mister Quân leaves for France. Freshly arrived, he abandons his writing for baguettes and forks, glasses and cloths. On the front of his restaurant, the French and vietnamese flag allow to forget that Eurasian roads separate us. Inside, having a drink is pleasant and listening to Monsieur Quân, is like getting to know a world in which humanitarian capitalism becomes faithfulness. The thinking of an immortal.

Well, we did it! Our first real Gaming Podcast by 2 members of the Fopsy Furry Gaming community, myself and Retro Armadillo. We talk about some of the games we're currently playing, World in conflict, Rainbow Six Vegas, and Battlefield 2. As well as we talk about a couple of other small things we're reminded about. Note that this is our first show doing this outside of a short 10 minute practice run we made over a week ago, so we're still getting used to the format, and learning how to make a show thats worth listening to, and be entertaining in general. Any feedback is welcome because we only want to keep making this better and more fun. This was recorded using Ventrillo as a way to merge our 2 voice inputs, and then converted to MP3 using Audacity, and finally imported into Windows Movie Maker as a video. So please excuse the poor re-re-recorded audio. Again, suggestions are welcome to make the quality better. Coral reefs are dying a death of a thousand cuts and their disappearance threatens not only the incredibly diverse ecosystem that depends on them, but also human health and welfare. In this episode of MicrobeWorld Video marine scientists Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, Ph.D., chair of marine studies at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, and Kiho Kim, Ph.D., director of the environmental studies program at American University, explain the important relationship between microbes and corals, and how this delicate symbiosis that sustains life on and around reefs is facing numerous threats from human interactions to global climate change. In addition, Tundi Agardy, Ph.D., founder and executive director of Sound Seas, discusses the need for public policy and community-based conservation efforts that may help stave off the degradation of these vital ocean ecosystems. According to a 2004 report issued by the World Wildlife Fund, 24% of the world's reefs are under imminent risk of collapse through human pressures; and a further 26% are under a longer term threat of collapse. If nothing is done to protect these resources, many scientists estimate that reefs around the West Indies in the Caribbean will be gone by 2020, while the Great Barrier Reef may only last for another three decades.
