Eric is an electronics designer and musician living in Austin TX, whose current motto is "transistors are the new vacuum tubes". This motto stands as encouragement for today's DIY electronic musicians to study the design of classic analog synths and drum machines, so that the excellent minimalist ideas built into them can be preserved and re-used.

In 2009, Eric helped initiate a series of DIY workshops called Handmade Music Austin, contributing open designs for minimal analog drum machines, and teaching PCB assembly to a class of 20+ beginning DIY'ers. Recently, Eric was hired to design interactive electronics for exhibits at Childrens' Museum of Houston and Austin Children's Museum.

As a musician, Eric plays live electro/techno with self-designed circuitry, both solo and in the duo E-Squared.

Presently, Eric manufactures synthesizers and experimental audio gear under the brand name Grendel. A gallery of his work can be found at ericarcher.net under the Devices tab.
