Joined January 2009
Tha Trickaz are the sound of neo-Hip Hop. In their music, the audience is taken on an aural bohemian adventure, combining explosive beats with the instrumental restraint of a philharmonic orchestra.
Self-labelled “Tha Vietnamists” and lifelong friends, Pho & Thu (DJ iRaize), founded the group over eight years ago, based on a mutual need to push musical boundaries as well as their own technical limits. They are based in Paris, France.
Their live performances best illustrate the magic of combined imagination: rare and traditional vinyl cut up with sampling, scratching, electronic instruments and live musicians (Australian cellist, LUCE and French Jazz saxophonist, Hansen). All this combined with killer beats to shake the floor!
The originality of their music has initiated worldwide collaborations with respected artists such as Shabazz the Disciple (Wu Tang Clan) / Akon / Killarmy / Glasses Malone / Tariq.L / Genghis Khan / Non Genetic (USA), Mc Yoke (Japon), The Codefendants (Paris/Brooklyn) and so many more... Their new sound has also caught the attention of Hip Hop greats such as Cut Chemist and Birdy Nam Nam. They shave also been invited to score soundtracks to movies and skateboarding videos.
Over time, the group has transformed itself into a dynamic and expressive unit – just as suited to careful listening on hifi, as crackling speaker cones and rocking heads in venues such as the infamous REX CLUB (Paris). Their first unofficial LP, “Iconoclast Sound Adventure” (2005) is a live performance combining turntables, MPC’s, keyboards and a range of other electronic instruments. This year they released three tracks on Indie Label HYPERDOGS (UK/France) in a compilation by DJ Otis called, “The Sound of Hyperdogs”. 2008 also marks the release of four Trickaz remixes for The CoDefendants (Shabazz the Disciple, Enza and Taxi).
Currently, the group are finalising their second LP "Cloud Adventures" and also producing a Rap EP with their worlwide collaborations.
