Set your focus to infinity. Other than that, I don't generally do anything special, except try to
hold the camera still to avoid motion blur, but also keep it pointed at the areas of greatest activity. I then go back later, in my video editor, and watch every strike (even just flashes) frame by frame to find interesting stuff. I cut out all but the couple seconds of each strike, and play them at full speed. Then I make a copy, and re-render each segment at 3 frames per second, glue em all together and add to the end. The 3fps version usually shows up way way more cool stuff than the full speed version. Sometimes something that just looks like a flash, is actually a full sheet of lightning across a cloud.

Ian commented on Embedding problem with Firefox 3

Updated to latest version of Flash Player. Already at latest version of FF3. Problem persisted. Finally tried starting FF3 in safe mode and it works. Went to work disabling add-ons and found it on the first try. Appears to be a bug in the extremely popular AdBlock extension. Even if I tell AdBlock to whitelist vimeo, or shut AdBlock off completely from its own preference menu, all Vimeo embedded objects on rcgroups still don't appear. If I disable AdBlock as an add-on completely (from FF Ad-on settings), then it works. Odd thing though is that none of this was broken in FF2 with AdBlock, and that other sites with embedded Vimeo objects still work fine. So while it smells like a bug in AdBlock, it is only triggered by something specific to the way the videos are being embedded by the forum software at rcgroups.com.

There's only one video on that page, so are you sure you're going to the right place? http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=904062 There's also a screenshot attached to the post showing what it looks like.

My issue remains. Works in FF2 but not FF3. Updated the post on rcgroups forum (link above) with screenshot of the problem, and copy of the contents of the object tag as seen in view source.

The little title bar with clickable link, is just pure HTML. Just an A HREF tag, so it'll always work. The actual Flash object below it is in the source, but shows nothing. I do see other websites with working embedded Vimeo vids in FF3, so I know it's possible. Example: http://virtualsitevisit.org/mt_includes/2008/06/howto-embed-your-vimeo-video-o.php

This is probably a bug in the forum software where I'm seeing the problem but I need some help figuring out why it's not working, so I can provide some guidance to the forum support staff. This URL shows the problem. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=904062 Viewed in Firefox 2 or IE, it shows an embedded Vimeo video Viewed in Firefox 3, it shows only the forum generated title bar with clickable url. View source and search for "embedded" to see the object tag. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ian commented on 2008-05-18 EasyStar FPV Flight w/ Music

One of my patches was direct from Hyperlink, the other direct from RangeVideo, but they're identical. I've tried it with the cable in every orientation except down (since I don't want to set it on the cable), so I'll try that next. Haven't found a mini tripod with a wide enough base to keep the patch off the ground reliably, so I'm using one regular tripod, and one flexy tripod thing that I use just to prop the other one up, when it's sitting on the ground or lying flat.
