Peter K commented on Canon HG10 Sample Video

    Hi Jeremy,
I'm looking at getting the HG10 and I have a question if you don't mind. The HG10 uses AVCHD compression. Upon doing a wiki on this format, I found out it can only playback in 720p or 1080i. Is there a way to make sure It can play back in 1080/24p? I'm a bit confused as to why the capture specs state 1080/24p or 60i when the compression utility can not handle the 1080p.

Peter K commented on Canon XH-A1 vs. Canon HV30 side by side

The A1 handled the light better when it was bright. I noticed the leaves were greener with the A1. The driveways and roads also looked better with the A1. But the HV30 was much sharper and seemed to be in focus more and had more detail. Having that sharp image goes a long way. I'm only a newbie. It would be nice to get a camera with that combines the good qualities of these two cameras. Thanks for taking the time to share your experiment.

Peter K commented on Canon HF10 Hi-Def Camcorder Review by Jefferson Graham

    Hello AA,
You seem to know alot about codecs. I have a question as a newbie. I'm looking at the Canon HG-10 which records to AVCHD format. The wiki site statest that the AVCHD format saves the files in 720p or 1080i .
Should'nt I look for a video camera that has a codec capable of saving in 1080p?
The Canon says it's a 1080p camera, but it can only save the files in 1080i is how I understand it.
If you have a moment can you explain some of this to me please? I'd hate to buy a so-called 1080p camera then realize later it only outputs in 720p or 1080i.
    Thanks
