3 months agoMax Nmn commented on HDR Timelapse Test #1There is actually another way of doing this - Photomatrix has option of generating pseudo-HDR from a single RAW file. I have tried both options and they have produced adequate results. However, highlights were somewhat blown out and color range was not the same (of course).
I tried processing slightly underexposed shots but in this case - shadow noise was apparent (even at ISO 100).
Going to try Photoshop CS3 for pseudo-HDR / RAW processing. -
3 months agoMax Nmn commented on HDR Timelapse Test #1I am still experimenting with it but here is what I do:
Canon 20D is set to take shots in a bracket (-2 0 2 EV fixed aperture)
Camera is connected to the laptop and DSLR Remote Pro is used to trigger shutter at 2 sec intervals taking 3 shots at a time.
All HDR processing is done in Photomatrix. I sample different parts of the timelapse and try to figure out the best HDR settings that will work for the entire sequence. Then I use those settings to process all 3-shot brackets with the batch feature in Photomatrix.
Final assembly and encoding is done in VirtualDub.
It looks awesome in 1080p, amazing detail. Only problem with HDR timelapse is that it takes toll on the shutter mechanism. 30 seconds of timelapse = 2700 shutter actuations.
Going to experiment with panning this weekend (Orion TeleTrack motorized mount). Cold front will be moving into my area on Saturday so I am hoping for some nice storm clouds.
