It could possibly be either. I assumed that it was the shutter sync on the camera being just minutely off. Both this short and the "Inner Life" were shot using the same camera and were telecined at the same time, so I can't say for absolute which it is. I didn't think about it too hard because I've never gone back to the telecine house (because they didn't do a good job) and because it wasn't my camera. The shutter sync problem would be that it doesn't sync perfectly with the intermittent motion of the pulldown claw.

The K3 isn't a precision camera. You would need to test the camera pretty carefully if you wanted to make sure that your images were clean. For me, that's part of the fun of the K3, if I want pristine I'll rent a nice camera or use my EBM which keeps time like a clock.

    Hi-

Thanks for the compliment. It's a shutter sync issue-the camera used was a well-(ab)used K-3 from a local community college. Notice how they happen at regular intervals. I kind of like the defects, it adds texture to the whole thing.

I've been watching high end HD work recently where they've actually introduced artifacts like that intentionally to make it look more "real." Go figure.

Nice, Karen. Lots of shiny colors! And dinosaurs.
