R Scott commented on Tell Your Story! How Did You Find Vimeo?

Someone on videohelp.com mentioned it as a superior alternative to YouTube for personal video.

This cuts the frame too. Compare the space over the the girl's head when she turns in the original and stabilized portions. It has to cut some of the frame, that's how image stabilization works - it keeps readjusting the frame positioning to keep the elements in the same place. So you have to zoom in to some point that hides the maximum adjustment made. You can do the same thing without the border intrusion visible here using Virtualdub (free) and a de-shaker filter. Not sure if Vdub does HiDef vid.

R Scott commented on What does Vimeo convert the vdeos to?

What's the format/specs that vids on Vimeo get converted to? The tutorials give certain specs that they suggest as the type of file that you upload, but obviously something else gets done to them. I assume the specs they give are those that come out looking the best when Vimeo is done with them? Is it possible to convert to "Vimeo format" before uploading, the way you're able to create .flv files that meet certain parameters that don't get re-encoded on YouTube, though many people don't know this. Btw, not in any way saying YouTube is better. Quite the contrary, I've been telling people about Vimeo ever since I discovered it about a week ago. Don't know how you can afford to run a free site with far higher bitrate quality than what YouTube allows when Google says they're losing money on YouTube as it is. I don't see a "donate to Vimeo" link so I assume you aren't even soliciting contributions.
