How to add or remove videos from your playlist

From there, if you’d like to add or remove additional videos to or from your playlist you’ll follow many of the same steps as above. For example, if you’d like to add a video, simply select a video that you’d like to add and click on the “Save” tab to the bottom right of your video.

You’ll then be prompted to select which playlist that you’d like to add your video to. (You can also of course create a new playlist at this point at any time as well.)

You can also rearrange any videos in your playlist by selecting the two lines to the left of the videos on the playlist Guide page. You can drag or drop the videos into any order which you prefer.

However, to remove videos, you’ll need to follow these specific steps:

  1. Open your playlist.
  2. Select the video which you wish to remove.
  3. Click on the three dots on the right to open the option menu.
  4. Select the “Remove from Playlist” option.

And that’s pretty much all the basics of the YouTube playlists that you’ll need for any variety of functions.

Coming up with playlist ideas

Aside from the technical steps to follow for creating and editing your playlists, the real trick for working with playlists (whether they be on YouTube or Vimeo or wherever) has to do with coming up with the best playlist ideas.

Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind when trying to come up with your own playlists:

  • Create playlists to help your audience piece together a sequence. This could be a playlist full of tutorials, or a multi-episodic arc about your brand or company
  • Keep your video series together and in order. It seems like a no-brainer, but always check your playlists before they’re ready for YouTube prime time.
  • Think about your viewer’s experience. Would the videos in this playlist you’re creating meet user expectations, depending on what they were looking for? Do you have a call-to-action or clear next step they can take from your playlist?
  • Be specific with your titles and descriptions, always.
  • Give people something they want to click on!

At the end of the day, playlists are a function which are meant to help content creators better guide a viewer’s experience overall. The last thing you want is your audience to feel confused by your content and how it’s been uploaded and laid out.

Remove any worry on your end by creating easy to find and follow playlists which present your video content in its perfect order.

Benefits of building YouTube playlists for your channel

Similar to Vimeo’s playlist functionality, YouTube playlists are also great tools to use for a wide variety of channels and needs. They’re also great for those who upload lots of video content regularly. For better or worse, many YouTube viewers might be overwhelmed or frustrated if they’re directed to only click on a YouTube page or channel.

Playlists can be a great way to bypass that confusion by laying out your video content in your preferred manner, and not letting YouTube list it simply by upload date or popularity.

You know when you can’t for the life of you decide what to watch, and end up scrolling and searching for a half hour for something good to watch? A good YouTube playlist can combat viewer’s decision fatigue and keep them watching.

Whether you’re looking to embed these playlists on your brand’s website, or if you’d like to simply take viewers through several episodes of content, use YouTube playlists to enthrall and engage your audience.
